sygil privacy policy

Effective 11 October 2026.

What sygil is

sygil is a personal command-line tool operated by the owner of tehcas.com. It runs on the owner's own computer. It is used by the owner and members of their household to act on their own accounts, for example to upload videos to their own YouTube channels. No one else uses it.

What it accesses

When an account is connected, sygil asks Google for permission to manage YouTube videos on that account (the youtube.upload and youtube.force-ssl scopes) and for the account's email address so the connection can be labelled. It reads the channel title for the same reason. It does not access Gmail, Drive, contacts or any other Google data.

What it stores

sygil stores an OAuth refresh token for each connected account, encrypted, in a file on the owner's computer that only the owner's user account can read. It also stores the account's email address, channel title and the dates the connection was made and last used. Nothing is stored anywhere else.

How it uses the data

The stored token is used only to perform the actions the owner asks for, such as uploading a video, listing videos or setting a thumbnail. Nothing is sold, shared, transferred or used for advertising, analytics or profiling. The data is not used to train models.

sygil's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. sygil uses YouTube API Services; by connecting a YouTube account you agree to the YouTube Terms of Service, and Google's handling of your data is described in the Google Privacy Policy.

Removing access

Running sygil remove revokes the token with Google and deletes it from the computer. Access can also be withdrawn at any time from the Google account permissions page, after which the stored token stops working and is deleted on the next use.
